Get Smart

Brandon and I had the opportunity to go on a hot Saturday afternoon date. Hot as in the temp outside was pretty hot. We went to see the movie Get Smart and I was disappointed. I love Steve Carell. I think that he is so funny but this movie was not as funny as I thought it could have been. It was no Even Almighty. The day wasn't completely uneventful though because I got into an argument with a lady in the bathroom who thought she needed to use two stalls. I couldn't believe that she wouldn't let it go. I think that I could have taken her but I am glad I didn't have to try although I have always wondered if I could win a fight. Anyway, I would pay Redbox prices to see this but not box office prices.

I Love Flip Flops!

You live to have fun, and your sense of humor is downright goofy.
You are a big kid on the inside, and you have a very open heart.
You try to make every day feel like a vacation, even if you have other responsibilities.
Each day, you make a little bit of time to play and let loose.
Your ideal warm weather place: Disney World

Hot Fun in the Summer Time

The kids have been working all summer doing chores and they are receiving an allowance. There allowance is equal to half of their age. The money is beginning to burn a hole in their pockets and they came up with the idea of all going in together to purchase a slip-n-slide. They didn't realize that it would only cost them a little under $3.00 a piece to purchase it. They thought that it would be alot more expensive and they could have paid alot more for a fancy one if they wanted to. They are all getting their $3 worth but they are also learning a lesson because they are realizing that you get what you pay for. It definitely isn't the best put together contraption. They are having fun even if you have to stop and fix it after each person has a turn.

Diet Questions Answered by A "Real" Doctor (I'm Sure)

Q.I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain... Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. And remember:
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

AND.....For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.
1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wineand suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you!

The Splendor of the King

God amazed us the other night with the amazing clouds to the East of us. We walked outside and the clouds were building so boldly and rapidly. The sun was setting and reflecting on the clouds and you couldn't help but to see the splendor of our King. Nobody on earth could create something that amazing. I know the pictures don't do it justice but I wanted to share them.

A Memorial Soccer Weekend

We had quite the soccer weekend when the Dishman's blessed us with their visit. Both Bret and Brooklyn played in a soccer tournament and then we got to spend Saturday evening at a Rapids game. Brooklyn has been wanting to go for quite a while so it worked out great for us.
You will notice that Zach isn't in the picture because the thought of spending a whole day at soccer was a little to much for him to handle. Sidney took this great picture of one of the Rapids mascots.
Waiting for the game to start. They were both excited and exhausted. The Rapids lost but we still had fun.

This video is of Brooklyn scoring a goal in the tourney. It is kind of hard to see you just have to take my word for it. The team ended up getting 3rd place.

Sharefest 2008

We spent this last weekend doing volunteer work with 35 other churches and approximately 3500 volunteers. It was quite the time. We stained some fence, built some benches, reroofed a shed, and did yard work for a house is Boulder that helps teenage boys. It was a great feeling to work side by side with them to get work done that may not have otherwise been done.

Brook and the rest of us were covered with stain by the end of the day.

Taking a break to chow down.
